Emerson has provided a good deal of facts and statistics, however does not specifically mention how the internet has changed communication. She does a fine job defining what business to business e-commerce is, but does no necessarily look at new technology within the past twelve years but more the 16 year range. The results displayed show the difference, and increase in popularity of e-commerce but doesn't really describe why. I was unable to view the source when going to check if it was credible or not but find the facts to be realistic.
New technology has helped a lot in the business world, especially when it comes to maximizing the businesses efficiently. How exactly has is maximized efficiency? New technology allows businesses to communicate with each other much more quickly rather than when businesses had to use the U.S. Postal Service to communicate; something that used to take at least a couple of days to do now takes hours or even minutes for businesses to communicate. Cell phones, webcams, and the internet allow businesses to communicate much more quickly which helps maximize the businesses efficiency. New technology has cut a lot of costly expenses that businesses used. Communication used to be costly but new technology has eliminated most expenses; most email services are free so it doesn’t cost much for businesses to communicate. New technology has also made it so quick and easy to transfer files from business to business. New technology has allowed businesses to maximize efficiency and it has also reduced some costs for the businesses.
Comment: The paragraph above shows how businesses communicate together using the internet. It does a good job describing how the companies do it as well.

Mark has addressed some of the key benefits that technolgy has provided to the business world. He talks a lot about the positive changes that it has brought to the business world but seems to avoid the disadvantages. The site he got this informatin from is accuarte and descriptive but seems to be one sided. It doesn't mention the drawbacks of technology, and it is important to recognize both the opportunites and the risks when using technology as a means of communication. Sometimes the risks outweigh the benefits, and it ends up not being worth it.

Data is used to easily segment the marketplace and target advertising. Consumers can also easily find retailers online with the use of various search engines and directories. What role does Facebook and Twitter play here?
Facebook and Twitter makes it easy for consumers to buy products. Facebook and Twitter both offer ads on the side of their website that personally attract their consumers. By doing this Facebook and Twitter can take the information off of people's profiles and then target them directly. For example if someone posts as a status that it's a beautiful day for gardening, then Facebook or Twitter may put an ad on the side of their website for local florists, or maybe even a Home Depot. Facebook and Twitter make it easy for businesses to just advertise to the people most likely to buy their products. By doing this companies eliminate marketing to consumers not in their target market and just to those who would most likely buy their product. Also people's situations change and they might end up needing a product or service that typically wouldn't be appealing to them. Most likely in this day in age people post on Facebook or Twitter everything that happens to them. By doing this advertising constantly is changing on the social media websites to adjust to these changes. Facebook, Twitter, and other forms of social media identify the target market and are big contributors to business' success.
Comment: Melony's source does a great job of giving the class a look at how people use social media to shop and find out about products that are being sold. The ads do a great job by targetting people for certain products and services.
Facebook and Twitter play a big role in how and who companies advertise too. The user is allowed to create a profile which helps determine the advertisements that come up on their Facebook page or Twitter feed. Facebook and twitter allow businesses to advertise to their target market. This allows the business to hone in on the people who want their product rather than advertising to people who aren’t interested in the company’s product. Facebook and Twitter also introduce potential customers to new products. Twitter and Facebook ads also make it easier for businesses to deliver ads to their target market rather than trying to advertise to them through email. Facebook and twitter have opened a whole new world for advertising.

Melony has outlined the basic definition of E-commerce. She has provided the building blocks to expand off of what E-commerce truley is. She does not give opinion, but strictly gives the facts. This shows that the source she chose is valid and isn't biased. Which makes her source a reliable place to gain information on E-commerce. Its important to make sure that the definition is accurate and precise inorder to understand E-commerce, and this has been achieved.
E- commerce began in the early 1980s after Michael Aldrich coined the term " teleshopping". This was not necessarily online shopping but it was a means of "shopping at a distance". When the World Wide Web was introduced more and more companies were beginning to enter the online shopping world. Some early online businesses that sprung up were Amazon and Ebay. These two companies are designed specifically for online purchases only. These businesses are continuously expanding as technology becomes more and more accessible. As melony said above, E-commerce provides many advantages, and one of them is that online shopping saves time. In this day and age when people are constantly moving at a fast pace it is important that their is an option to reduce time. Some people don't have time to go out and search for good prices and weigh them against other competitors, where the internet allows them to do that. That is why it is so important for businesses to make sure that their company is accessible on the internet. Society is constantly trying to improve efficency and make is more convenient for the consumer. Technolgy is making it more convenient for the consumer, ecspecially with the multiple devices that are available now a days. Basically since technology is the newest craze its imperitive that businesses make sure that they are available online. E-commerce is fluorishing. In the 1990 is was more about Business to Business E-commerce, where now the Buinsess to Consumer E-commerce is taking off. For example the sales from 2000- 2009 have jumped from $27.6 billion to $143.4 billion. Along with E-commerce has come better security plans to insure the safety of the consumer's information and as this technology improved it paved the way for more businesses to join the World Wide Web. Its improtant to keep in mind that E-commerce does have risks becasue of identity theft and the possibility of someones information getting lost or mistaken for someone elses. This risk does steer some profits away from online business but that is why better security is being implemented.
Comment: Samantha has given the class an excellent link to the deffintion of e-commerce and how it got started. The paragraph above shows the reader what was used to do shopping before the invention of the world wide web. It is very important to know the history of where a service started to get the general idea of why it was needed. In the case of e-commerce it was needed to provide a major convinienece to customers. She does a good job ex[plaining why people use it to buy things like groceries.
Electronic commerce has been traced back to 1960 when banks used the computerized check-processing system called the electronic recording machine-accounting or the ERMA. This made it possible for 9 employees to do the work of 50. In the 1970's banks started using the EDI or the Electronic Data Interchange to process things like invoices, shipping notifications, and purchase orders (Batten). The invention of the internet in the 1990's opened up the world of electronic commerce to businesses small and large. This meant that anyone with access to the internemt could reach a global system that went into countless businesses. The first major e-commerce company was Amazon.com, founded by Jeff Bezos in Seattle in the year 1995. The first products sold were books that could be bought cheaper than the ones in the typical book retailers in the US at the time. Amazon has now expanded to sell a wide variety of products in addition the the books already being sold. Soon after the first major online store was created a man named Pierre Omidyar and Jeff Skoll founded eBay the first online auction business. When the two biggest e-commerce sites went up smaller businesses started to pop up as well. In the 200's many people could now find a lawyer, doctor or even a dry cleaner on the internet. E-commerce has deffinately changed the face of shopping for everyone by making it much easier for people to do their shopping online. Many small businessese have their own websites just to give their potential customers a look into their bussiness and what it offers. Some don't even sell items they just use the internet for the purpose of promotion or information. Factors in e-commerce include a fast delivery and convienence to the customers. E-commerce has changed the way the world does business with other businesses.

easier to pay for products with credit cards online because all the customer has to do is put in their information. There are some major risks while purchasing something online. A lot of people fall for scams and accidentally give their information to identity theives.
When using a credit card to purchase something online there is quite a lot of risk involved for both the business and the consumer. The business is entrusted with a substantial amount of personal information, that the consumer has to trust won’t get lost or publicized. The business holds a lot of responsibility when it comes to the privacy of their customer's personal information, therefore if the business does not uphold this responsibility, they risk losing their customers, and risk obtaining an awful reputation, that could cause their businesses to fail. The businesses also risk fraud. They have the potential of receiving false means of payments, or cards that have been over drawn. This seems like a high risk situation but it turns out that the consumer will lose more if their information is easily accessed by outside sources. The consumer risks losing their identity, their credit card numbers, their passcodes, and ultimately a lot of money, that some businesses don't ever pay back. Thankfully there are many resources that protect both the business and the consumer, during an online purchase. When purchasing a product with a credit card, a 4 digit code is required, as a means of insuring that the purchaser using the card is the owner of the card, and not a fraud. Other means of protection include Address Verification System (AVS). This helps better identify the proper owner of the card. As more and more risks are identified, online security is bettering itself for the protection of both businesses and consumers.
Comment: The post above does a good job describing some of the issues that businesses and consumers face while accepting credit card payments. The site used seems to be reliable but the only thing wrong is that the source doesn’t address the benefits that come along with accepting credit cards as a means of payment. The post itself also doesn’t address the benefits which makes credit card purchases seem like its bad; however, the post does tell us that there are ways to protect the consumers and businesses. Overall this is a good post in regards to describing the issues with accepting credit cards as a means of payment.

Some issues with the increase in technology include the miscommunication that can arise when bosses communicate with their employees via email. Many a time emails can be misinterpreted, and or taken the wrong way. This can disrupt how the company functions. Ultimately the human element is more effective, because it cuts out any room for misinterpretation, but it lacks efficiency which seems to outweigh effectiveness.
Comment: Sam has done a great job describing the use of technology in an internal business setting. The sources used to gather this information seem to be very helpful in regards to understanding how technology is used to communicate within businesses. I believe that the source used by Sam is a reliable source because it shows both sides of the argument; technology has both improved and caused some minor problems, which were addressed. This source clearly isn’t biased for reasons I just stated in the last sentence. Overall this is a good post and it does a good well done in regards to the use of technology in internal communication between businesses.

Also with the increase of technology people are able to work from home rather than in the office which creates a huge communication barrier. When people work at home there are many distractions like kids, dinner, spouses, etc. Businesses may believe that its good that [Not finished.]finished]

New technology has greatly impacted businesses all over the world, and can have a positive impact if executed properly. If a business or large corporation creates an environment where data, internet protocol, and voice networks can be shared then communication can run smoothly and costs can potentially get cut. If an environment like this is established however, then businesses need to have a set of rules and guidelines on how members of the business communicate so that everything stays appropriate.
